Q. What is Crowdfunding?

The Campaign for Baltimore’s Heroes is a crowdfunding campaign launched to help raise funds for partner organizations in Baltimore. We hope that this campaign helps inspire Baltimoreans both local and alumni to come together, show their pride for Baltimore, and provide essential funding to support our partner organizations. This campaign shines a spotlight on the changemakers building a brighter future for our city and creates a sense of energy around philanthropy.


Q. When is it? How long will it run?

The Campaign for Baltimore’s Heroes will be launched on September 30th, 2020, and it will run until we reach our goal of raising a minimum of $1,000,000 for Homecoming Heroes, Partner Organizations and COVID relief.


Q. What is GiveGab?

GiveGab is a nonprofit giving platform that helps nonprofits to raise money, engage donors and manage volunteers quickly and efficiently. GiveGab offers a full portfolio of simple and easy to use products that allows organizations to function in a more streamlined manner.


Q. Who can donate?

Anyone with a credit card and access to the internet. Through this campaign we aim to mobilize our Baltimore alumni community of expats who have a special tie to Baltimore city.


Q. Can I participate in the Crowdfunding Campaigns if I am not from Baltimore?

Yes, absolutely! Extended networks are encouraged to support the partner organizations through the Campaign. When prompted in the giving form, please select the role you are most closely affiliated with. The gifts of many come together to support the transformational work of our partner organizations in a big way.


Q. What forms of donations are accepted?

MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express donations received through the crowdfunding website will be matched from the bonus pool on a prorated basis. Donations via check will be accepted through direct coordination with the Baltimore Homecoming team.


Q. Can I send a gift by mail/check?

Yes. However, due to the tight period of crowdfunding efforts, only gifts made online, count toward overall totals and competitions. If you would like to make a gift by check, please call 443.738.5256 or email us at giving@baltimorehomecoming.com

Q. Is there a minimum gift?

There is a $5 minimum donation.


Q. Can I make donations via a mobile device?

Yes! Simply visit giving.baltimorehomecoming.com on your mobile device.


Q. Where does my gift go?

You may donate to any of the partner organizations that are currently participating in the crowdfunding effort. Your gift will help fund their specific work, and 100% of the proceeds will reach partner organizations. Donations made to organizational categories (i.e. Homecoming Heroes, Partner Organizations) will be split evenly amongst participants in the specified category.


Q. Is my payment secure?

Absolutely - The crowdfunding site is facilitated by GiveGab, a company who has partnered with Stripe, a PCI Service Provider Level 1 (the most stringent level of certification possible) to process all gifts made through giving.homecoming.com. Read through Stripe's security documentation online.


Q. Is my Campaign for Baltimore’s Heroes contribution tax deductible?

Yes, your gift is entirely tax deductible. You will receive an email confirmation that may serve as your receipt for tax purposes.


Q. Does it cost anything to give through the Crowdfunding effort? How much of my donation will the participating organizations receive?

There is a GiveGab processing fee and a 2.5% (+ $.30) bank fee for donations made using all major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Discover or American Express). You have the option to cover these costs in addition to your gift.


Q. Can I help promote Crowdfunding?

Please do! We encourage you to share the images and messages that are located in the Ambassador Toolkit. Send an email to your network, post on your Facebook page, tweet, blog, yell, put signs on your lawn. It's all encouraged!


Q. How will the donation be reported on my credit card?

Gifts made through the Crowdfunding site will appear on donors' credit cards as the name of the organization to which has been donated.
